Puerto Rican Mantecaditos and Polvorones

One of my husband’s favorite cookie! He is Puerto Rican and grew up eating these. These can be made with a mix of shortening and butter or all butter if that is your preference. They are meant to be a butter cookie though the shortening adds texture and stability to the cookie. Originally, this recipe is made with lard in Puerto Rico. I top with Guava or Sprinkles and if making polvorones, then I top with powdered sugar.
